This workshop will prepare professionals and volunteers to scout for, identify and report the egg masses of Spotted Lanternfly (SLF), Lycorma delicatula, a serious pest that threatens both our ecological and agronomic resources in our region. The surveyor protocol and iMapInvasives and iNaturalist apps will be reviewed, which will be used to report the current distribution and abundance (or absence) of SLF egg masses. Winter identification information will also be provided for Tree of Heaven, Ailanthus altissima, the SLF’s favorite host. Following the workshop, volunteers will receive a survey assignment to search for spotted lanternfly and tree of heaven in and around parking areas of regional parks and near trailheads in northern New Jersey and the lower Hudson Valley.
Pre-registration is required.
