A huge shout out and thank you to our 2022 Stewardship volunteers! From attending any of our 7 Invasives Strike Force (ISF) training workshops, to getting their hands dirty at any of the 33 crew workdays, or restoring our native landscaping during any of the 13 Habitat Helper events that were held in 2022, this dedicated group of 512 volunteers devoted over 3,300 hours to protecting our region’s natural areas. This productive season included 106 ISF surveyors completing 126 out of 151 trail survey assignments, searching for and reporting beech leaf disease, spotted lanternfly, tree of heaven, jumping worms, and a rotating monthly invasives species. In addition to these in-person events and online workshops, our Stewardship team hosted 14 other education and outreach-oriented events that reached over 500 community members. We also virtually broadened our reach accumulating over 20,000 views on our YouTube channel and welcoming over 250 followers to our new Lower Hudson PRISM Instagram account. (Don’t follow us yet? Check us out!).
A special thank you to volunteer leaders Rich Rockwell, Joe Motisi, Carole Baligh, Tom Bender, Elaine Silverstein and Terry Cohn for helping organize and plan this incredible volunteer effort in addition to the tireless efforts of our program staff behind the scenes who help make this department thrive! |
