Nice hike for a spring day in May

Like other reviewers, I missed the turn off for the yellow blazed Winnebago trail...probably hiked a good half mile before turning back. Views are awesome from Indian Cliffs. The signs just after turning onto the Winnebago trail are pretty ominous. "NO TRESSPASSING" VIOLATORS WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULL EXTENT OF THE LAW" but I didn't care and the scout camp was unoccupied anyway.

Indian Cliffs Loop Hike

Good morning, and thank you for your comments. We have contacted the appropriate trail supervisor and will add yellow turn blazes to indicate there is a turn onto the yellow trail.

Often, we hike the areas (200 miles) so much, that we don't pick up on every detail, so we appreciate your comment.

Happy Trails!

Awesome hike, but be careful at white --> yellow trail junction

Thank you for posting this hike. I didn't know there were so many trails north of the reservoir. The features you see on this hike are terrific, and the way that they occur when traveling in this direction is very nice. However, the turnoff from the Four Birds Trail (white) onto Winnebago (yellow) is VERY easy to miss. This is the junction AFTER you turn: https://www.flickr.com/photos/kleepet/40579986373/in/dateposted/ If you were hiking in the opposite direction from how this is described, the Winnebago Trail would end at Four Birds, so, no chance of getting lost in that direction. As noted in the description, the Orange Trail can be quite eroded at times. It made me think of the little girl with the little curl right in the middle of her forehead (when it was good, it was very very good, but when it was bad it was horrid). However, it was only horrid for very small distances. The hike description doesn't actually tell you when you are on Indian Cliffs. When you're at the viewpoint overlooking the reservoir: that's Indian Cliffs. :-) I did this trail on a rainy day in spring before anything was growing, and it was still gorgeous. Terrific Hike Today!

This loop is now one of my favorites. Really nice job on the trail markings and maintenance. I ran into a large scout troop on the white trail, and missed my right turn onto yellow, following them south on white a long way. I have to use Avenza to measure the mileage, but I was hiking hard for 7.5 hours. Fantastic.

Great hike with multiple payoffs.

The description is pretty accurate. The trails are well marked. Misty Pond is the first body of water and it gorgeous. After that, the climb to the main viewpoint is short but steep. It's stunning. After coming down from that ridge, walking partially around the reservoir and heading back into the woods there is a private property notice on the trail - it's for the Boy Scout Property - but that's exactly where you should be, so walk right by those signs. When you come to the third body of water where the camp is, it's another stunner. This hike has it all as far as I'm concerned. Great workout, great views and a few places for my dog to take a refreshing dip in the water :)
