Trail Conference Awarded Funds to Fight Invasive Species

The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference is thrilled to be awarded two grants from New York State Department of Environmental Conservation to reduce the negative impacts of invasive species on New York State’s natural resources, economy, and communities. 

The Trail Conference received $100,000 in support of “Invasive Species Early Detection / Rapid Response and Control of Terrestrial and Aquatic Species” efforts. This award is centered on the innovative work of our Conservation Dogs Program in detecting, monitoring and managing invasive species in the Lower Hudson region. 

The second award of $84,139 is in support of “Invasive Species Education and Outreach” efforts to deliver holistic messaging on the prevention, identification and control of invasive species in the region. 

These awards are in addition to funds supporting the great work of our Lower Hudson PRISM staff, partners, and volunteers.  

"We are committed to protecting New York's waterways, forest lands, and agricultural crops from dangerous invasive species," Governor Hochul said. "This funding supports projects across the state that will help prevent the spread of invasive species in New York, protecting our natural resources, economy and public health from the negative impacts of this threat."
